NHS Improvement is responsible for overseeing foundation trusts, NHS trusts and independent providers. We offer the support these providers need to give patients consistently safe, high quality, compassionate care within local health systems that are financially sustainable. By holding providers to account and, where necessary, intervening, we help the NHS to meet its short-term challenges and secure its future.
NHS Improvement is the operational name for the organisation that brings together Monitor, NHS Trust Development Authority, Patient Safety, the National Reporting and Learning System, the Advancing Change team and the Intensive Support Teams.
The post holder will lead on the delivery of a high quality and consistent approach to Use of Resources and Financial Governance assessments within the region; and will be responsible for the successful delivery of those assessments across the region. You will be working on a high profile programme with a direct impact on how providers are viewed by patients and a wide range of external stakeholders, locally, regionally and nationally
The post holder will also provide additional capacity to the regional Business and Finance teams to provide a full business and finance advisory service in line with NHS Improvement’s operating framework to a portfolio of Trusts, leading on ad-hoc projects. The post holder will direct the engagement with NHS Providers across the London region developing strong working relationships with the Senior Finance Leadership in those providers. To support this, the Head of Assessment and Finance will work closely with Delivery and Improvement Director and the Clinical Leads in the scrutiny, assessment and delivery of Provider plans and the Corporate Finance to ensure consistency with NHS Improvement operating model
The post holder must have experience working in a provider setting and have a strong understanding of operational models and processes.
The post holder must be a qualified accountant and member of an accountancy body which is a member of the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB). They should demonstrate experience of NHS financial management gained in the provider sector or oversight bodies.
The post holder will be involved in performance management and improvement processes of NHS Providers including leading the engagement of provider delivery of the efficiency agenda.
The post holder must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications on this engagement
The post holder will be able to demonstrate well developed analytical, business and influencing skills specifically, but not solely in the areas of investment case development and review, financial planning (both revenue and capital) and cost improvement.
