NHS Improvement is responsible for overseeing foundation trusts, NHS trusts and independent providers. We offer the support these providers need to give patients consistently safe, high quality, compassionate care within local health systems that are financially sustainable. By holding providers to account and, where necessary, intervening, we help the NHS to meet its short-term challenges and secure its future.
NHS Improvement is the operational name for the organisation that brings together Monitor, NHS Trust Development Authority, Patient Safety, the National Reporting and Learning System, the Advancing Change team and the Intensive Support Teams.
The Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) became operational in April 2017. Headed by the Chief Investigator, it is tasked with carrying out independent safety investigations across the healthcare system in England. HSIB is hosted by NHSI but is independent both in the conduct and the reporting of its investigations.
The purpose of the HSIB is to improve patient safety across healthcare by carrying out expert investigations to determine the causes of accidents and serious incidents, and to make safety recommendations intended to prevent recurrence. It is not to apportion blame or liability. HSIB also seeks to improve investigation practice across the wider healthcare system.
This role will manage aspects of projects and provide support for a portfolio of projects covering project management support, research and analysis, written reporting thereof, and financial and contract administration.
